CoderDojo is a global movement, set up to encourage kids and young people to become creators rather than just users of computers. The one rule at CoderDojo is to ‘be cool’.

The CoderDojo at Mary's Youth Club is free and open to young people aged 10 to 17. It takes place at our community centre.

Don't know how to code? no problem, you'll learn everything you need to by taking part. If you already know your way around with coding, we can challenge you further and you can pass your skills on to others.

CoderDojos are a great place to meet like-minded people and to learn from other people who are passionate about coding. They provide an environment where you can develop their own interests, but where you can ask for help or advice if you need it.

If you want to you can also get together with other participants with different skills to work on group projects: if you’re a backend coder maybe you could pair up with a frontender and work together on a website – you might even pick up some CSS while you’re at it!

What do I need to bring?

If you have or can borrow a laptop, bring it! Remember to bring the charging cable.

If you don't have a laptop or cant borrow one, let us know in advance, and we'll lend you one of ours.

Anything else?

no

Do I have to bring a parent?

If you are aged 10, 11 or 12, you'll need to bring a parent to register you with the Youth Club, but only the first time you attend. Aged 13 to 17 years? You can register yourself.

Our youth club is a safe space for young people, so parents don't need to hang around during the session. Perfect for those parents who need to pop to the shops or grab a hot chocolate on Upper Street.

Can I join in with other youth club activities?

Absolutely! When you register, you're a member of the club, all the activities for your age group are available for you to take part in. When the CoderDojo finishes for the evening you can hang out in the youth club until closing time.
